ORDERING AND TONS OF INFORMATION
Thank you for your interest in an Atlas custom drum ring. My name is Mark, and I have been a goldsmith since 1989 and a drummer since 1982. I am half owner of Atlas Jewelers in Shelby Township in south-east Michigan where we primarily do custom jewelry and repair in our community. Making jewelry is my passion. Drumming is also a passion of mine. These custom rings combine both my passions and showcases my high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail.
My rings are custom made to your specifications. You do not have to know all about drums. I can help. You can send me a photo of the drum that you would love to have made. I can emulate any drum, with any drum lug pattern and create a texture and finish to best copy your drum. The ring can be made using one, or any combination of 14k yellow, white or rose golds. Platinum and sterling silver is also available.
Custom making jewelry can be over whelming when you are starting with a blank sheet of paper. However, I can help make it easy. I chose to keep it as simple as possible by not charging different prices for different lug patterns or textures. Below you will find a lot of information. My goal is not to try to make a generic $100 ring on Etsy. My goal is to make serious, highly detailed, custom jewelry that is a work of art. I have it down to 2 levels of custom, FULL CUSTOM and multiple piece, SPECIALITY CUSTOM where I can use multiple colors of 14k gold. See pricing break down below.
I am running a special for any FULL CUSTOM drum ring in Continuum sterling silver at $400. This is still custom made any way you want it, to your specifications in any textured shell. (Except a high polished shell.) Attention Ludwig metal snare enthusiasts: I cannot do a high shine shell in silver at this special price. $450 for high shine in continuum sterling silver. We will then need to talk about the down side to plating if you looking for a Black Beauty.
WHICH DRUM?
You have control of many of the design elements of your ring. First, is the lug design. I can emulate any drum manufacturer's lug pattern. What drum do want made?
All my drum rings come with hand fabricated tension rods that allow for a polish and detail that cannot be beat by all-in-one castings. The rims and lugs are nicely sanded and polished before the tension rods are laser welded in place.
RIMS
You get to choose between smooth and flanged rims. Flanged, undulating rims look more realistic, but can be felt slightly by the adjacent fingers. Smooth rims are wonderfully comfortable. Same price for either style.
SHELL TEXTURES
There are many textures possible for the shell utilizing different tools and techniques. All textures are the same price. Check out my website galleries for examples.
A new texture may even be created for your ring to best emulate your drum.
THIS WILL BE A WIDE RING
A typical wedding band is 8mm. Most of the drum rings I make end up being around 10mm wide. You may want a specific width for comfort reasons or to better capture the look of your drum. Together, we will decide on a width. Comfort fit is standard.
CUSTOM ENGRAVING
An engraved personal message inside the band is free of charge.
PRICING
Pricing custom work can be challenging.
There are two levels of labor in gold drum rings: FULL CUSTOM and multiple piece SPECIALTY CUSTOM which can be one color or two tone. The multiple piece SPECIALTY CUSTOM drum rings have the lugs cast separately for higher flexibility in polishing and allows for a gold color choice of all the parts. With FULL CUSTOM, the lugs, shell and rims are cast together, cutting down on some assembly.

The general estimates below are for an average, eight lug drum ring design, in an average finger size using 14 karat gold. Modifications to the design are easy for me to figure. So if you want to add throw offs or badges, let me know. Most lug designs can be done as a one piece casting as a FULL CUSTOM ring.
FULL CUSTOM
One color design.
The shell, rims and lugs are cast as one piece. The tension rods are hand fabricated in metal and are laser welded in place. A high shine shell is not available in FULL CUSTOM.
Approximately $1275-1475
Multiple piece SPECIALTY CUSTOM ONE COLOR
The shell and rims are cast as one piece. The lugs of your choice are cast separately because some types of specialty lugs need to be pre-polished before assembly for a crisp look. The tension rods are hand fabricated from wire and laser welded in place. The shell texture of your choices applied, including a high shine polished shell.
Approximately $1400-1700
SPECIALTY CUSTOM TWO TONE
Complete control of gold color of all parts. The shell, rims and lugs are all cast separately. They are pre-polished and assembled before the tension rods, that are hand fabricated in metal are laser welded in place. Any finish can be applied to the shell including high shine. There are at least 30 separate pieces in a two tone drum ring. A two colored gold drum ring is $150 more for the additional CAD, printing, casting and assembly required.
SILVER DRUM RINGS
I also offer my drum rings in Sterling silver. I do not cut any corners or compromise my craftsmanship with working in this lower cost metal. I am offering a special on the FULL CUSTOM in Continuum sterling silver at $400. I can do most lug patterns at this price. You still have the choice of flange or smooth rims and your choice of shell texture. (Except a high shine shell is not available.) You still get the hand fabricated tension rods and inside ring engraving.
As a warning, silver is a softer metal then gold and does not wear as well. Greater care must be given in wearing silver jewelry. I generally do not recommend silver ring for a wedding band.
However, I use a modern alloy of sterling silver called Continuum. It is a 925 sterling silver, is 95% precious metal and is tarnish resistant. It replaces some of the copper with some platinum family precious metals. I use it mainly because it is harder than traditional 925 sterling but it is also tarnish resistant. It is almost as hard as 14k yellow gold. Here is a link for more information on Continuum sterling silver:

14K WHITE GOLD ALLOY
We use a great 14k white gold alloy that is considerably harder, but more importantly, whiter than typical white gold alloys. It does not require rhodium plating to make it more white. It is EU white gold compliant.

SHIPPING
I can ship anywhere where precious metals can be imported. Within the continental US overnight insured shipping is used. Our brick-n-mortar Insurance for the store covers shipping insurance. If shipping outside of the US, shipping plus any taxes, duty or fees imposed by customs are your responsibility. Michigan residents have to pay the 6% sales tax.
What do I need to get started?
I do not require any down payment. However, it must be paid in full before I ship it out.
We accept Visa, MasterCard, PayPal
FINGER SIZE
I will need an accurate finger size to start the custom wax. No guessing. Any jeweler can help with finger sizing. They will have 3mm and 5-6mm wide sizing rings that go by half sizes. Use a wider, non-comfort fit set. Find the best size for your finger. Your size may be an in-between quarter size. Because of the wider ring that we with be making, (probably 10mm wide) we will add at least a 1/4 size to compensate for the extra width. The wider the ring, the more skin contact, the tighter it will feel. So do not add any amount to do your own compensating. If a 3mm wide art is used, I will add 1/2 size. Let me know if that was used.
◦ Finger size
◦ Lug design
◦ Shell texture
◦ Which metals (colors) for which parts
◦ Rim style. Flanged or smooth.
◦ Few other design details that may be specific to your drum and drum ring.
I will send you pictures of the entire process of the making of your ring. I am confident that you will love it and that you will have an incredible custom jewelry making experience.
